Mindfulness is a practice that involves paying attention to the present moment with openness, curiosity and acceptance. It can help us cope with stress, improve our well-being and enhance our performance in various domains of life. But how can we cultivate mindfulness in our daily lives? One way is to use the 4 'c' of mindfulness: concentration, clarity, compassion and choice.

Concentration is the ability to focus on one thing at a time, without being distracted by other thoughts or stimuli. Concentration helps us to stay present and engaged with what we are doing, whether it is work, study, meditation or leisure. Concentration also allows us to deepen our awareness and understanding of ourselves and our surroundings.

Clarity is the ability to perceive things as they are, without being influenced by our biases, expectations or judgments. Clarity helps us to see reality more clearly and objectively, without adding or subtracting anything from it. Clarity also enables us to recognize our emotions, thoughts and sensations, and to acknowledge them without being overwhelmed or identified with them.

Compassion is the ability to feel for ourselves and others, without being attached or aversive to them. Compassion helps us to cultivate kindness, empathy and care for ourselves and others, especially when we or they are suffering. Compassion also motivates us to act in ways that are beneficial and supportive for ourselves and others, without harming or exploiting anyone.

Choice is the ability to act intentionally and wisely, based on our values and goals. Choice helps us to take responsibility for our actions and their consequences, without being reactive or impulsive. Choice also empowers us to make changes in our lives that are aligned with our true aspirations and potentials, without being constrained by fear or doubt.

The 4 'c' of mindfulness are interrelated and mutually reinforcing. By practicing concentration, we can enhance our clarity. By practicing clarity, we can cultivate compassion. By practicing compassion, we can make better choices. And by making better choices, we can improve our concentration. Thus, the 4 'c' of mindfulness form a virtuous cycle that can help us live more mindfully and meaningfully.
